ESRA Petach Tikva 'Every Quilt has a story'

ESRA Petach Tikvah Branch

invites you to a talk

Memories and Healing through an art form ‎

with Marlyn Butchins

Marlyn, originally from Zimbabwe, lived a number of years in South Africa and came to Israel with her ‎husband, 3 children and her sister Gail in 1987.‎

Marlyn started quilting in 2003 and immediately fell in love with the craft.  She mostly enjoys making ‎traditional quilts, although she has done some "art" quilts as well.  Some years after her mother and ‎sister were killed in a terrorist attack near Dizengoff Center, she initiated a memorial quilt project to ‎honor the lives of her family and the other 11 victims killed alongside them.  She has given more than ‎‎35 lectures in Israel about this quilt and travelled overseas with it to several countries. ‎

Marlyn will discuss the therapeutic value of working with fabrics. She has made several memory quilts ‎‎- for both happy and commemorative occasions. Her motto is "Every quilt tells a story".

Marlyn is a therapist working with people suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's, and also a grief ‎counselor.  She is very concerned about animal welfare and has a deep affection for cats, many of ‎which feature in the quilts she has made.‎

Seating is limited so please book early.‎
