invites you to a talk by

Louise Stobicki

on the hit musical 'West Side Story'

The Immigrant Experience

‎“West Side Story” is one of the great examples of the American musical theater.  The ‎show, with music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and choreography ‎by Jerome Robbins, is loosely based on Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet.” The setting ‎has been moved from Verona, Italy to the slums of New York City.  The feuding families ‎have been replaced by feuding gangs, one Puerto Rican, one white.  The show opened ‎on Broadway in 1957, and was followed by a movie version in 1961, which won 10 ‎Academy Awards.  ‎
