Project of the Month

These programs allow talented underprivileged teenagers to fulfill their potential by providing them with a challenging program of enrichment and leadership training at the Ruppin Institute of Marine Science. Talented 7th graders from all backgrounds of Israeli society in the lower socio-economic levels are chosen - programs run for 2 years.

    Every year the Institute manages to give us new surprises at the End-of-Year Ceremony for the ‎2 groups of  teenagers in our 'Excellence Project' who study once a week at the Ruppin Marine Science Institute - 36 kids in all.‎

    ESRA Karmiel chose a most auspicious day for its visit to Jerusalem choosing the day following Yom Yerushalayim, to witness the ‎very essence of democracy in our adopted land. Thirty six people took part including members from Karmiel area, Yokneam and Zichron Yaakov, vatikim and new olim (in conjunction with Nefesh ‎B’Nefesh Go North).

    Another year of social gatherings, activities and happy evenings of this special club, culminated ‎in an end-of-year visit to the Ramat Gan Safari. As the theme of this year’s meetings was ‎communication, it was a fitting end to use our skills to communicate with the animals.‎

    There was a last minute change of speaker at the ESRA Haifa evening event on Sunday 5 June. Due to a death in her family Hava Karrie arranged for the Deputy Director of the Golda Meir Mt. Carmel International Training Centre to take her place.

    Beautiful Princesses made out of balloons adorned the tables, two huge balloon pillars with ‎the number “12” on top decorated the stage, buckets of marshmallow flowers greeted the ‎incoming guests, a wonderful birthday cake on display.

    ‎“What a great day!”, “Terrific program”, “Very informative and interesting”, and “So glad I came!” were ‎just a few of the many comments made by ESRA Modiin members who attended ESRA’s first-ever ‎National Conference on May 22nd.

    On Yom Haatzmaut the Nahariya Branch of ESRA held their traditional annual BBQ. The tasty and lively event was held in the garden of Hazel Michaels and Ben Soller's home and was attended by over 30 people.

    Our Once-a-Year Get Together of all four Students Build a Community projects in Netanya took place at the start of the Pesach holidays. 150 kids, 40 students, 3 coordinators and several ESRA volunteers met in the Ilanot Woods just south of Pardessiya for a day of fun and excitement, helped by one of our partners the “Green Network”.

    Our meeting room in Bet Hecht was over-filled to capacity as a record number of 64 members and friends awaited our honoured guest speaker, Prof. Amatzia Baram.

    The students of ESRA’s ‘Students Build a Community’ Program organized a Pre-Passover happening in the Neot Shaked neighbourhood which was attended, and enjoyed, by all the community.

    The event took place in cooperation with the 'Green Network', which works closely with ESRA in all the communities in Netanya, providing ideas and examples in environmental care.
