Project of the Month

ESRA Computer Centers provide free access to computers and innovative instruction in computer skills for underprivileged children, youth and adults helping to close the cultural and educational gap.

    A wonderful Evening of Appreciation was arranged for the knitters of ESRA Rishon Branch together with those of the 'Ad 120' Retirement home. This is an ongoing and joint project ‎of the two organizations. Every year the ‎‎22 knitters donate around 300 sweaters to needy children in the area.  ‎

    Our tour of Magdala with expert guide Nurit Greenberg, began in glorious winter sunshine as we drove through the ancient ‎olive trees in Emek Beit Hakerem, some of them around 1,000 years ‎old.

    Mimi Semuha of ESRA Yokneam organised a Chanukah get-together for local members on Thursday evening, the 5th candle of Hannukah. Mimi writes "Since we are a relatively young group, a lot of families brought their children so it was a fun party!

    Last Tuesday evening 1 December, tension mounted as the clock struck 7:30 and 400 ESRA quiz afficionados all over Israel sharpened their wits in preparation for ESRA's 2nd National Quiz. This year 20 teams took part, 7 up from last year, ably coordinated by Glenis Bertfield and technically aided by David Shulman.

    The official opening of the Students Build a Community Project in Hefzibah took place ‎during the first week of November at the local Community Center.‎ The 48 children participating in the project attended, together with their parents, ‎representatives of the schools and the community centers, the students and ESRA ‎volunteers.‎

    The 'Students Build a Community' Project in Neot Shaked started the year ‎with an “Around The World” Happening organized by the new students ‎participating in the project. Seven different ‎‎“stations” represented a different country with different activities representing each culture.

    A new tradition has been established on Kibbutz Degania Bet for the end of Succot . What began many years ago as a traditional Succah crawl for kibbutzniks has now developed into a street fair with many craft stalls, food stalls, street entertainers and over 1000 visitors.

    Our day started with a visit to an apiary, in the spirit of Rosh Hashanah, to see how honey is made.

    We continued to Zichron Yaakov to hear about the jams and other goodies produced by the Christian Zionists at Kibbutz Bet El within the city.

    ESRA Haifa's first event of the season was a Sunday evening Musical Sing-Along at the beginning of September, meeting as usual at our regular meeting place at Bet Hecht on Central Carmel.

    A warm, but pleasant July early evening saw over 30 ESRA members and friends from Petach Tikvah gather to enjoy a 2 hour stroll with our experienced  tour guide Pamela Levene around Sarona where we saw refurbished Templar houses in the heart of Tel Aviv.
