Haifa Branch present author, Gregory J. Wallance who will talk on “The Woman Who Fought An Empire” his new biography of Sarah Aaronsohn, the leader of the Nili spy ring that was operating in the Ottoman-ruled “Eretz Israel” during WWI.

How Sarah Aaronsohn died is well known.   Now learn how she lived.

Using rarely viewed archival letters of Sarah Aaronsohn and her family and friends, author Gregory J. Wallance has reconstructed Sarah’s life in Palestine before and during World War I when she led the Nili spy ring. 

His talk will focus on how Sarah’s espionage skills helped the British defeat the Ottoman Empire, which made a Jewish state possible, and on her complex relationships with the strong-willed and flamboyant men in her life, including her brother Aaron and the dashing Avshalom Feinberg.

Gregory J. Wallance is a lawyer and a writer, a former federal prosecutor and a long time Human rights activist from New York City. 

He is the author of several other books, including America’s Soul in the Balance: The Holocaust, FDR’s State Department, and the Moral Disgrace of An American Aristocracy.
