On Tuesday afternoon, May 29, Janet Kiesari, Marion Levy and Naomi Zuri were privileged to attend an end of the year "happening" for the 'Nativ' Project in Rishon held at the Chai Kef Zoo, under the auspices of the Municipality with the Mayor of Rishon Lezion (Mr. Dov Zur) in attendance.
Excitement was in the air as we arrived at Hefzibah on the morning of 8 May for our ESRA presentation. We had attracted over thirty interested people, mostly recent olim. The Matnas looked magnificent after its recent refurbishment, organised and welcoming.
The Insight day is just the kind of event that ESRA members enjoy. From the 10am start, ESRA veterans enthused at the constant flow of information. Newer members were in awe by what has been done, and by what is being done by ESRA. The room was abuzz with anticipation and pride. The energy and enthusiasm generated by the speakers was palpable - Joan Weisman, Netanya
ESRA at thirty is a remarkable organization. It began as a group of English-speaking new immigrants who sought the ease and familiarity of socializing with other English speakers. It has grown into a registered charitable organization which presents to the public a rich array of social, cultural and educational activities and services as well as over thirty projects in the community for those new olim and veteran Israelis in need of support.
ESRA encourages English speakers in Israel to volunteer in the community. Whether new olim or established citizens, by doing so we feel part of the surroundings and a contributing member of society. And, of course, Israeli society is all the richer for their input.
There are many different areas of volunteering to suit every individual's personality and/or area of expertise. ESRA has a volunteer coordinator who is willing to discuss your suitability and time availability for one of the worthwhile volunteering activities that ESRA is involved in.
