ESRA Ramat Aviv Branch

One of a series of talks organised by ESRA Ramat Aviv in partnership with Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, Immigrant Absorption section.

In the beginning of the 20th century New Orleans was the hub of a rare cosmopolitan reality. Its streets were filled with a vast array of sounds: slave songs, gospel, blues, and ragtime mixed with European musical styles.
The social - political collision would eventually create a never-heard-before musical fusion. It is about to forever change the history of music. A new style born – Jazz!
Who dances in Congo Square over a hundred years and what is a Creole?

Dr. Raz Yitzhaki has a PhD in musicology from Bar Ilan University. He is a lecturer at the Music Department, Bar Ilan University. He also lectures for companies and organizations about creative leadership and teamwork inspired by jazz.
Yitzhaki is the author of “Jazz Improvisation, Basis, and Theory" (2004) and The Jazz Guide" (2020).
He believes that in the same way that jazz reflects the dynamics of life, jazz can also be seen as a philosophy, a way of life. Yitzhaki is an active jazz pianist and an enthusiastic lecturer on jazz culture, spreading his passion among audiences.
