Many people view Jerusalem as the center of Jewish existence in the Land of Israel. Without detracting from the importance of Jerusalem, we will take a Galilean centrist perspective insisting that without historical focus on the Galilee we can neither understand how the Jewish People organized to survive in the Diaspora for close to 2,000 years nor would there have been a successful return to the Land of Israel and the establishment of the modern State of Israel.

Speaker: Yisrael Ne’eman is an historian, with a BA in History from Rutgers University and an MA in Modern Jewish History from the University of Haifa. Currently, he is a lecturer at both the University of Haifa and Technion International Schools and is a licensed Israeli tour guide. His areas of specialization include the Middle East conflict, modern Jewish history, and Israel. In 2016, he published Hamas Jihad: Antisemitism, Islamic World Conquest and the Manipulation of Palestinian Nationalism.
Yisrael made aliyah from New Jersey in 1977. He has lived at Eshchar with his wife Susan since 1988. In September 2020, Yisrael became the Misgav Chair of Partnership2Gether working with colleagues in Karmiel, Pittsburgh and Warsaw to strengthen Jewish community ties with Israel.
