During the 1920's prohibition laws, Americans became obsessed with alcohol. As speakeasy’s flourished so grew the demand for jazz music - which served as the sound track of a wild era. When the stock market collapsed in 1929, the US sank into one of its darkest periods. Young Americans danced their depression away to the sound of the Swinging Big Bands. Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman were the stars who made their dark sky bright.

Raz Yitzhaki is a music educator specializing in creative thinking in jazz and popular idioms. He has a PhD in musicology from Bar Ilan University.  He is also a lecturer at the Music Department, Bar Ilan University. Yitzhaki is an active jazz pianist and an enthusiastic lecturer on jazz culture, spreading his passion among audiences.
Yitzhaki is the author of “Jazz Improvisation, Basis, and Theory" (2004) and The Jazz Guide" (2020). He believes that in the same way that jazz reflects the dynamics of life, jazz can also be seen as a philosophy, a way of life.
