Join us for a powerful screening honoring Viktor Fainberg, one of eight heroic dissidents who stood in Red Square in 1968 to protest the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia - a solitary act of defiance that reverberated across the Iron Curtain. Through intimate interviews, rare archival footage, and striking illustrations, the film retraces Fainberg’s extraordinary journey: from his childhood in Kharkiv, through the inhumanity of Soviet psychiatric imprisonment, to his lifelong struggle against Soviet political oppression.
A fearless defender of human dignity, Fainberg raised his voice for Soviet and Russian political prisoners, stood in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and fought until his last breath for the freedom and security of his spiritual homeland - Israel.
At a time when Israel is engaged in an enduring war for its survival and future, this film offers more than remembrance. It is a call to courage - a testament to the power of individuals to bend the arc of history.
The evening will open with reflections from his daughter, Dr. Sarah Fainberg, Senior Researcher and Head of the Great Powers Research Program at Tel Aviv University’s Elrom Center for Air and Space Studies.
