 Harry Hiller

I am a married man, celebrating the 63rd Anniversary with my wife Marion in 2019. We have two children, a son who now lives in Oxford England, and has two children and two grandchildren. Our daughter lives in Haifa and has three daughters.

I am a Dental Surgeon and retired after 54 years in that profession in 2006.

Over 5 years ago some friends and I started a Branch of ESRA in Haifa, with help of course from the Main Branches in the Center. Our Branch is now doing very well, and we have monthly speakers, arrange trips with buses, have meetings in private homes, and try to raise money in other ways.

Last year we financed a project in a school near Haifa, to help disadvantaged children achieve Bagrut and get to IDF service. This was a very good and successful project. This year the same project is running again, and so far seems to be doing well.

After difficult negotiations, the second project in a school on the Carmel in Haifa was started, where there were also children who needed special help. The feedback from this so far has also been positive.

We look forward to increasing membership in many ways, and also to find some new younger members for our committee.

Barbara Kliner

I was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland and lived there until I made Aliyah in December 2012. After raising a family, I worked as a qualified Law Accountant and Practice Manager of a medium sized legal firm. I worked for many years with a number of communal and charitable organizations. I held a variety of positions within the Jewish Community including Brownie/Guide Leader, member of Glasgow Jewish Representative Council and Secretary to British Friends of Israeli War Disabled. My main involvement was with Cosgrove Care, an organization for adults and children with learning disabilities, with which I was involved from the age of 16 until making Aliyah by which time I was Financial Director in charge of a budget of 3 million pounds sterling per annum. Over the years I have organized many events, large and small including social, cultural and educational culminating in a 60th Anniversary dinner for Cosgrove Care for 400 people. Since making Aliyah I was introduced to ESRA, which seemed to accord with my beliefs, and within a short time have risen to the dizzy heights as Chair of Netanya Branch. I have tried to invigorate the branch by exhorting the membership and introducing new ideas. My husband Stephen and I have been married for over 40 years and we have two children, a married son living in Ramat Gan and a married daughter living in Liverpool, UK. I have five lovely grandchildren.

 Susan Kurnedz

Susan Kurnedz was born in England and lived for most of her life in Manchester. She worked in the Citizens Advice Bureau and also with battered wives with the Probation and After Care Service. She was a magistrate in Salford for twenty years.

She came to Israel in 2006 to join her 3 children and grandchildren. While looking for something to occupy her she found ESRA. Susan heads 2 very important ESRA projects. One is ESRA’s Support and Counseling Service which she established in 2008. This service gives a rare opportunity for English speaking people to receive counseling in their own language. The team of thirteen counselors and 3 supervisors meet for training every month and work with professionals.

The other project is the ESRA Recipe Calendar which Susan initiated in 2012. The project not only adds to ESRA’s coffers but is an excellent PR investment for ESRA. Together with the rest of the team she works intensively for several months, collecting adverts and setting out the copy to ensure the Calendar is ready for distribution in time for the New Year.

Susan likes to call our organization ‘her ESRA family’ because she says that is how it feels to her.

Stuart Razin

Made aliyah in 2006 to Bet Shemesh and has lived in Modiin for four years. In Bet Shemesh participated in political campaigns as well as serving on the Board of Directors of the Benjamin Library and as an active volunteer on a weekly basis.

In Modiin I have served for two years on the ESRA Modiin Board, on the ESRA Modiin planning committee this past year and in the bookshop as an active volunteer for close to three years. I have served on the National ESRA Executive Committee since this past January.

I worked for more than forty years in the Jewish communities of New York, Oceanside and for thirty-one of those years in Toronto. In Toronto I served as the Executive Director of one of the largest synagogues for 22 years and for five years I was the National Director of the Canadian Friends of Yeshiva University. In those years in Toronto, I also served as chairman of different divisions of the United Jewish Appeal. Before making aliyah I also served on the board of directors of the synagogue where we were members. I also was a national leader in the professional association of executive directors known as NASA.

I am interested in helping ESRA reach new levels of excellence in its activities and feel my past experiences will enable me to contribute to the National Executive of ESRA in its future successes.

Nina Zuck

I came on Aliyah with my husband in 1972. Spent 3 years in Petah Tikvah and then moved to Netanya where we have been ever since. "Adopted" a soldier in 1980 and have 4 wonderful grandchildren from him and his wife.

Have two sabra children of my own, and one grandchild from each of them.

Spent my first 15 years as office manager for the representatives of Hughes Aircraft Co. (afterward McDonald Douglas), working with the IAF on aeronautical systems.

When my children were born, I changed careers, did the ‘English As a Foreign Language’ Course at Beit Berl and spent the next 15 years teaching English. I started volunteering with ESRA in 1998, emphasizing that I could give just one hour a week to the sewing centers, fell in love (with ESRA) and started working with Debby Lieberman as her assistant when she was Project Chair. Took over as Project Chair from Debby when she became Chairperson of ESRA and then joined with Adele Hunter to jointly chair ESRA in 2010.  At present, I am Chairperson of ESRA Projects.

Today I try to give myself the one hour a week I used to give ESRA!  No complaints…..
