The port city of Haifa is generally considered a British project of the Mandatory Period (1918 to 1948). In this short period of time, the city grew eightfold, becoming the unofficial capital of Israel and, at the time, was considered one of the most modern cities in the world. This lecture challenges this narrative and reveals some of the incredible archaeological sites that demonstrate Haifa’s centrality and multicultural character throughout the history of the Land of Israel from the Paleolithic through to the Crusader Kingdoms of the Middle Ages.
